Now Supporting the San Diego Association of Governments

SANDAG is San Diego county’s metropolitan planning agency, which is led by a group of policymakers including mayors and council members along with county officials. SANDAG has capital planning and fare setting authority for the county’s transit systems, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and North County Transit District.

In this partnership for public affairs services, Matter Strategies assembled a team of several firms each with its own unique areas of expertise to develop and implement strategic and creative marketing communications plans. Those firms include Arena Public Affairs, Byrne Communications Consulting, AlphaVu, and Green Chair Productions. AlphaVu was selected to join this team because of the firm’s experience and capabilities in supporting public agencies with data analytics and measuring customer experience.

Matter Strategies and its partners are authorized to support SANDAG’s marketing, paid media, public relations, and sponsorships/advertising. A key competitive strength of this partnership is each firm’s deep experience and connections San Diego and Southern California and their understanding of the city’s political and media landscape. 

Over the last several years, Matter Strategies has worked with SANDAG to coordinate with stakeholders on the agency’s Regional Plan as well as its Airport Transit Connection project, soliciting community input and advising on public information strategies. Matter Strategies is co-founded by Matt Awbrey, who previously led external affairs for the mayor of San Diego and oversaw communications for the City of San Diego.
